MEET OUR DOCTORS

A native of San Antonio, Michael Casillas, DDS, serves the residents of his hometown at San Antonio Surgical Arts, with four locations throughout San Antonio and New Braunfels, Texas.

After graduating from Central Catholic High School, Dr. Casillas studied at the University of Texas at San Antonio. He then earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the Dental School at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Dr. Casillas continued his training with externships in oral and maxillofacial surgery and pre-prosthetic surgery at UT Health San Antonio, and then residencies in both general practice and oral and maxillofacial surgery at Denver General Hospital.

Dr. Casillas is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Dental Association, Southwest Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Texas Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Texas Dental Association, and San Antonio District Dental Society. Outside of work, Dr. Casillas gives back to the community through his involvement with the Texas Cavaliers, supporting local children's charities in San Antonio.

Born and raised in Austin, Texas, Michael Gissell Jr., DDS, MD, treats patients at San Antonio Surgical Arts, with four offices throughout San Antonio and New Braunfels, Texas.

After graduating from Texas A&M University with a bachelor's degree in biomedical science, Dr. Gissell earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Baylor College of Dentistry. He then earned his Medical Doctor degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and completed an internship in general surgery at Baylor University Medical Center, followed by a residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Baylor College of Dentistry.

Dr. Gissell is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Dental Association, Southwest Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Texas Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Texas Medical Association, Texas Dental Association, Baylor Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Alumni Association, and San Antonio District Dental Society.

Dr. David V. Malave was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. He attended the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus and graduated with a bachelor's in biology, then attended the University of Puerto Rico School of Dental Medicine.

After receiving his dental degree, Dr. Malave was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army. He was appointed as Chief of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Winn Army Hospital in Fort Stewart, Georgia, and later served as Assistant Program Director of the OMS Residency Program at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio. During his 14 years of active duty, Dr. Malave received numerous military awards including the prestigious US Army Meritorious Service Medal.

Following his military service, Dr. Malave was an attending surgeon at a Level 1 Trauma Center in El Paso, treating pediatric and adult complex surgical patients for 11 years. He received the Border Heroes Award from Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center for his service to the migrant community. Dr. Malave joined San Antonio Surgical Arts in 2019 and sees patients across all four offices.

LaVan R. Parker III, DDS, is a native of Austin, Texas, practicing at San Antonio Surgical Arts, which has four offices throughout San Antonio and New Braunfels, Texas.

After graduating from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology, Dr. Parker earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Baylor College of Dentistry (now Texas A&M University College of Dentistry). He completed a general practice residency at the Audie L. Murphy Memorial VA Hospital and a teaching fellowship at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Baylor College of Dentistry, then completed his postgraduate training in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Baylor University Medical Center.

A Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. Parker holds professional memberships with the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Dental Association, Southwest Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Texas Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Texas Dental Association, Baylor Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Alumni Association, and River District Dental Society.
