Dr. David V. Malave, DMD

Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon

Dr. David V. Malave was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. He attended the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus and graduated with a bachelor's in biology, then attended the University of Puerto Rico School of Dental Medicine.

After receiving his dental degree, Dr. Malave was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army. He was appointed as Chief of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Winn Army Hospital in Fort Stewart, Georgia, and later served as Assistant Program Director of the OMS Residency Program at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio. During his 14 years of active duty, Dr. Malave received numerous military awards including the prestigious U.S. Army Meritorious Service Medal.

Following his military service, Dr. Malave was an attending surgeon at a Level 1 Trauma Center in El Paso, treating pediatric and adult complex surgical patients for 11 years. He received the Border Heroes Award from Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center for his service to the migrant community. Dr. Malave joined San Antonio Surgical Arts in 2019 and sees patients across all four offices.
